Investigating Stakeholder Perspectives and Landscape Transitions through 3D Visualisations

The role of 3D visualisations in shaping stakeholder perceptions is crucial in landscapes undergoing transitions. By integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D modelling, and immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), interactive visualisations are developed to depict future landscape scenarios of a higher biodiverse value. These visualisations are assessed for their effectiveness in altering perceptions in a variety of contexts.

The use of multisensory, immersive technologies in visualising landscape scenarios reduces resistance to change by offering a clearer and more tangible understanding of landscape transitions, which in turn shifts stakeholders towards more positive perceptions and greater acceptance of these changes.

The research is expected to develop a decision-support framework that identifies the most effective 3D visualisation tools and techniques for influencing stakeholder perceptions in contested landscape transitions. The study will also provide empirical insights into the potential of advanced visualisation methods to mitigate conflicts and foster a more favourable view of landscape changes, facilitating smoother transitions in landscape management and planning.
